Solar Control Coated Glass and Low-E Coated Glass

The Difference Between Solar Control Coated Glass and Low-E Coated Glass

Coated glass is coated with one or more layers of metal, alloy or metal compound films on the glass surface to change the optical properties of the glass to meet certain special requirements.

Commonly used coated glass includes solar control coated glass and low-emissivity coated glass.

(1) Solar control coated glass

Solar control coated glass, also known as heat reflective coated glass, refers to the coated glass that has a certain control effect on sunlight in the wavelength range of 350~1800nm. Solar control coated glass has a high reflective ability to sunlight, and the reflectivity can reach 20%~40%, which can save energy consumption of air conditioning in hot summer. At the same time, it has a good shading function, making the indoor light soft and comfortable.

Solar control coated glass is a typical translucent glass with the characteristics of one-way perspective. When the film layer is installed on the indoor side, the indoor cannot be seen from the outdoor during the day, and the outdoor can not be seen from the indoor at night. The film layer of solar control coated glass has good firmness and can be used as a single piece. It can be controlled into hollow glass, and the outer layer is made of sunlight-coated glass, and the film layer faces the hollow gas layer, which can reduce the sunshade coefficient and heat transfer coefficient of the glass.

(2) Low-emissivity coated glass

Low-emissivity coated glass, also known as low-emissivity glass or "Low-E" glass, is a kind of coated glass (high-transmittance Low-E) with a high reflectance to far-infrared rays in the wavelength range of 4.5-25 μm. Low-emissivity coated glass can also be compounded with solar control function, which is called solar control low-emissivity glass (shade type Low-E).

Low-emissivity coated glass (high-transmittance Low-E) is suitable for high latitude and cold regions, and sunlight-controlling low-emission coated glass (shade type Low-E) should be used in hot summer and cold winter regions.

The production process of low-emissivity coated glass is divided into online high-temperature pyrolytic deposition method (on-line method) and offline vacuum sputtering method (off-line method). The low-E coated glass produced by the online method can be hot-bent and tempered, and can be used in a single piece, and the film layer should face indoors; the low-E coated glass produced by the off-line method has poor acid and alkali resistance and wear resistance, and cannot be used in a single piece. For glass, the coating on the edge of the glass and the contact part of the sealant should be removed. The coating surface should be located in the hollow gas layer, generally installed on the third side of the insulating glass, so as to make full use of the excellent thermal insulation performance and sunshade performance of the low-emissivity coated glass. .
